What is the Summer Entrepreneurship Institute?
It is a three-day summer camp/institute for High School students who will be a junior or senior in Fall 2024. The camp is on the University of Michigan-Flint campus located in the School of Management classrooms in the Riverfront Center.

What will students do at the Institute?
The Summer Entrepreneurship Institute will assist participants with an interest in business and entrepreneurship to decide if this is a route they would like to pursue in college. The program will engage students in a series of life-changing sessions, allowing them to get a feel for the field. The mission is to encourage entrepreneurial thinking and to assist students in learning about the process of starting and growing new ventures.
When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is Monday, April 29, 2024.
What is the cost to attend?
It is $50 for three days. The cost covers the program instruction/materials, lunch, snacks, and other miscellaneous items like a T-Shirt and Backpack.
Need-based scholarships are available and can be requested on the application form when applying to the program. A student who is related to a UM-Flint student, alumni, staff, or faculty member will receive an automatic $25 scholarship towards the camp. Please email us after completing the application requesting the UM-Flint Family Relations scholarship to be applied to your application.
What are the COVID-19 regulations?
Campers must comply with applicable University of Michigan public health policies at the time camp occurs. At this time, masks are not required.
Are the COVID-19 vaccinations or proof of negative COVID-19 test required to attend?
No. The University of Michigan-Flint does not require vaccinations or negative test results for campus guests.
Can parents attend the event with their student?
Parents/guardians will be invited to attend an introductory information session on the morning of the first day of camp.
Institute Expectations
Our goal is to encourage entrepreneurial thinking and to assist students in learning about the process of starting and growing new ventures. The program will help participants decide if entrepreneurship or business are fields they want to pursue in college.
Students will:
- Recognize what is required to become a successful entrepreneur
- Encourage entrepreneurial thinking to identify new business ideas
- Learn how to evaluate the feasibility of potential business ideas
Activities include:
- Field trip to visit entrepreneurial businesses
- Interactive lectures with School of Management Faculty
- Entrepreneur guest speaker
- Team project and presentations
- Creativity exercises

Typical Day
- 8 – 8:30 a.m. Arrive at camp
- 8:30 a.m. Faculty led discussion and activites
- 10 a.m. Snack Break
- 10:15 a.m. Entrepreneur guest speaker or company tour
- Noon Lunch
- 12:45 p.m. Team project work
- 2 p.m. Faculty led disccussion and activites
- 3 p.m. Dismissal
